Laasya School of Dance and Music is an institution dedicated to promoting traditional performing arts of India, primarily classical music and dance. The goal of this institution is to present the many facets of Bharatanatyam by taking an innovative approach while keeping the original techniques intact. Over the last decade, Laasya has carved a niche for itself both nationally and internationally.
The curriculum is tailor-made to suit the needs and experiences of students in the United States. Laasya School is renowned for emphasizing the basics and theory behind this dance form by conducting regular workshops both by the director and famous visiting artists. Students of this school graduate by performing their Arangetrams after undergoing rigorous training in three main levels namely basics and theory, introduction to items and finally expertise in Abhinaya & Nattuvangam. Creativity is encouraged by allowing senior students to choreograph a few items.
Students of Laasya perform regularly in various community events and the senior artists accompany Sridevi Jagannath, the director on some of her programs. Laasya School offers extensive training programs through annual spring and summer dance camps.
"When you take dancing lessons, you learn steps and you learn steps and you learn steps. It can go on for a long time. And then one day, you just learn to dance, and it is so different." - Bill Austin
